Apa formatting is required.

After deciding the topic for research, the student begins searching for suitable articles considered appropriate for the topic. A three to five page research paper requires one reference citation per page. No citations for the Title page or the last Reference page are necessary.
When completed, the Turnitin software analyzes the document and gives the student a printed form that allows for a the measurement the student`s ability to conduct secondary research of the topic for citing appropriate attribution of the sources from which the information was obtained.
To earn the maximum score of 400 points, the instructor will review the paper following the requirements listed for the assignment below.
RESEARCH PAPER
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this assignment is to give you the opportunity of exploring what is being researched in the field of Intercultural Communication, methods, and results. This assignment will also allow you to research one Intercultural Communication topic or issue of your interest. This topic may take any avenue, just as long as you are examining the impact of a single intercultural communications topic and its impact/study/history, etc. on the world stage. This is intentionally WIDE open. I am more interested in what interests you and your analysis of it.
PROCEDURE:
To complete this assignment: First, SELECT ONE INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION TOPIC or issue of your interest. Second, READ FOUR (4) RESEARCH ARTICLES/SITES/CHAPTERS, etc. that deal with the topic you have selected. Again, your analysis of the topic is of concern to me.
CONTENT AND ORGANIZATION:
The content and the organization of your paper must be as follows:
1. Have a very short purpose statement and preview main points of paper. These main points are up to you and reflective of your research. The paper itself will report your findings and your analysis of these findings, much like a standard research assignment.
2. Be Thorough Your choice is yours, but just remember that your analysis is what is important. Don`t simply report, assess and analyze. That can include deducing causes or effects. Nothing ‘just happens.` Get to the root of these issues.
3. Report all the RELEVANT and RELIABLE RESEARCH
5. CONCLUSION EVALUATE the relevance of your research in terms of what: 1) can be learned, 2) the contribution that this can make to valid Intercultural Communication, and 3) the social implications of the findings.
This paper is 3 to 5 pages, typed, double spaced. APA formatting is required. Title page and References do not count as the five-page maximum and are required.

Assignment Goal
The purpose of this assignment is to learn how to read a text closely. Any serious writing begins with close reading. Before you begin on the critical analysis essay, you should read “How to Do a Close Reading” located in Files. If you didn`t finish reading Beowulf in Module One, you should complete the reading before doing this assignment.

Assignment
In 25-50 words, explain “fatal trail” reference in the below passage
Write a 500-word essay that analyzes how this “fatal trail” symbol illuminates your reading of the epic of Beowulf. Start by framing a thesis statement (claim) that reflects the referenced symbol and serves as an organizing principle for the analysis. Highlight your thesis and begin every paragraph with a topic sentence. In your analysis, you should feel free to identify themes, incidents, or even other symbols in the text that align with the “fatal trail” symbolism. The goal of your analysis is to enrich your reader`s (and your own) understanding of the epic of Beowulf.
No secondary sources (e.g., Lit Charts) are allowed for this analysis; you should rely solely on the assigned text, Beowulf. Any material traced to a secondary source would be considered plagiarism and may lead to a grade of zero on the assignment.

Passage (from Beowulf)
“ His parting from life
hardly seemed sad to any man
who examined the trail of that inglorious one,
how he went on his weary way,
defeated by force, to a pool of sea monsters,
doomed, put to flight, and left a fatal trail.
The water was welling with blood there–
the terrible swirling waves, all mingled together
with hot gore, heaved with the blood of battle,
concealed that doomed one when deprived of joys,
he laid down his life in his lair in the fen,
his heathen soul–and Hell took him” (Beowulf, lines 841-852).

Grading Rubric
Your critical analysis should:
Provide a suitable and inviting title.
Follow with a thesis statement (highlight the thesis).
Perform insightful syntheses, unveiling the connotative value of the chosen symbol.
Construct body paragraphs that enhance the thesis (begin each paragraph with a topic sentence).
Draw and analyze specific examples from the text to validate selected symbol (include and highlight one quote–each quote should not be longer than a sentence).
Follow each quote with a synthesis.
Use attributive phrases to introduce quoted lines (provide line number in parenthesis)
Use concise and grammatically correct sentences.
Adhere to MLA protocol.
